This plant was designed for protective gas welding on cooled copper backings of three longitudinal lap welds which join the roof sections of passenger car using a laser system to control seams.
Principle of operation
By means of lift-and-carry facilities the section elements are placed on the stand where they are fixed. By means of a gantry the welding machine is placed to the beginning of the weld then the edges are clamped and the order is given to start the welding. After welding the automatic welding machine returns to its starting position, the clamps are released. The gantry moves to the next weld. After three welds are finished the gantry returns to its starting position. The finished workpiece is taken away from the stand and sent to the next workplace. The process is controlled by the operator on the monitor.
