Railway turntable

The railway turntable is designed to turn the locomotive by 180 °.

The railway turntable is controlled from a comfortable operator’s cabin. The cabin is equipped with a heater with high heat transfer, which allows setting the required microclimate in a short period of time. The cabin is also equipped with air conditioning.

For safe work, the design of the turntable includes: a spare manual drive, locking devices, indicators of the turntable readiness to receive a locomotive, lamps to illuminate the working area at night.

Application of Turntables in Railway Infrastructure

  • Railway depots. Turntables in depots are used to rotate locomotives and wagons for repairs, maintenance, or refueling.
  • Marshalling yards. At these stations, turntables are used to sort wagons and change train direction.
  • Industrial sites. At industrial facilities where railway transport is utilized, turntables streamline logistics and allow trains to maneuver in restricted areas.

Technical Options for the Base Configuration

Electrical Equipment & Control

  • Remote control (radio pendant or wired remote station) — for operation without constant presence in the cab
  • Automatic positioning system with track position memory — the operator selects the track number and the turntable aligns automatically
  • Integration with depot management systems (Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet protocols)
  • CCTV system monitoring the working area with display in the operator’s cab
  • Redundant frequency converter — eliminates downtime in case of primary unit failure

Climate & Ergonomic Configurations

  • Enhanced thermal insulation cab (for harsh climate regions)
  • High-power floodlighting of the turntable area (for night shifts)

Civil Works & Installation

  • Development of foundation drawings and site-specific structural assignment
  • Supervised installation with on-site specialists
  • Commissioning and load testing
  • Personnel training (operators + electricians + maintenance mechanics)

After-Sales Service & Lifecycle Support

  • Extended warranty (beyond the standard term)
  • Maintenance contract (routine servicing, seasonal maintenance)
  • Spare parts and tooling kit (basic and extended sets)
  • Remote equipment condition monitoring (when integrated with depot management system)

Non-Standard Configurations

  • Custom turntable diameter (to suit specific rolling stock — diesel, electric locomotives, track maintenance machines)
  • Increased load capacity (above 150 t — for heavy freight locomotives)
  • Indoor depot configuration (no outdoor shelter, adapted cab dimensions)
  • Heavy-duty anti-corrosion coating for high-humidity or coastal environments

What is the lead time for manufacturing a turntable?
Lead time is determined individually based on current production capacity and the specific configuration ordered. Please contact our sales team for up-to-date information.
Is it possible to manufacture a turntable to non-standard specifications?
Yes. We design and manufacture turntables with custom diameters, load capacities, or structural configurations to suit specific rolling stock types and operating conditions.
Can the turntable be installed outdoors?
Yes. The base design is intended for open-air installations. For harsh climate regions, optional features include a rail anti-icing system, heated walkway decking and staircase steps, and enhanced thermal insulation for the operator's cab.
How long does installation take?
Installation timelines depend on foundation readiness and the availability of lifting equipment on site. With our specialists present for supervised installation, the typical assembly and commissioning period is 3 to 6 weeks.
